![]() ![]() ![]() The router would have the default "block all connections not started from inside the network" and drop the connection. If they were trying to use that IP to connect to their server, it would be blocked by the router because the connection would essentially be leaving their house, to their ISP, and back into their house. I only brought up their external IPs because it's the one you see on the start menu when you boot up the game. All they need is to be on the same network and have each other's local IPs. They also don't want to open up to the internet because it's just a LAN server. Some consumer routers have the ability to place different hardwired connections into different subnets, which I wanted to rule out first. Right now they can't even connect to the server, which indicates that they may not be in the same LAN because there wouldn't be any higher level routing blocking communication. The game is just great without all this overhead.First they have to check that they're in the same LAN first by pinging the computer hosting the server using their local IPs. Ta has little overhead with too much quality and thats the beauty about Ta. There is too much overhead without quality if you know what I mean. Modern games is just too darn superfluous and bloated. I don't know why, but modern game developers lacks taste. Again, I think more developer teams should keep to the old classic TA/Warcraft II easy-to-use concept/interface style, rather than producing games like supcom where the terrain is like a stretched rubber band and everything feels so unnatural and superfluous. But when it comes to the classic (easy non-bloated scrolling system, easy to use interface, fast-responding units, little animation, non-stretched-rubber terrain etc) its awesome. And perhaps a smarter and better A.I system. It is a great concept, the things this game is lacking is a graphical facelift. I think it is a big mistake of the modern gaming community to go away from the concept of TA. You can complain alot about graphics, but this game is just too darn good to be forgotten. There is little to beat this classic RTS. Wonderfully primitive are the right words here. We'll round up the rest of the NERDs for some more games. Felt wonderfully primitive compared to SupCom. We had a great time playing a nostalgic game of TA. However NERDsMisterT had a lot of trouble opening the right ports (range portforwarding isnt supported in his router). You can download it at After a few years of SupCom and FA, NERDsMisterT and I felt like a good old game of TA. You should find it a much more pleasant experience than the previous options. I'm really excited to be releasing it, and hope it helps boost the TA community by allowing people to play that were unable to until now due to problems with opening ports, etc.Īs well as solving router problems, as far as I know, GameRanger is the only place where you can play the entire series. It has full lobby support for over 500 different games and demos (including the TA series, of course), without the hassles and headaches that usually happen with network connections (eg. Total Annihilation: Kingdoms: The Iron Plagueīasically, GameRanger makes it quick and easy to play your friends online. Total Annihilation: The Core Contingency Hi all, just thought I'd let you know about a new multiplayer network I've created for playing the Total Annihilation series online called GameRanger. ![]()
